Although my experiences are probably absolutely nothing compared to yours, I noticed that if I embraced my geeked out nature and my very strange sense of humor (I'm highly ADD), the people I worked for actually trusted me more. My boss didn't care about semantic web, what I was doing with our PHP backend, or what switching the entire site over to a subversion repository and overall just cleaning up our act meant, he just had faith in me and what I was doing enough that he didn't care too much, and indeed, I never lost his trust.

I am a total dorky nerd by nature, and that quality is actually quite enduring. Despite the fact that I was crammed into a cubicle for 8 hours a day, I stayed true to myself and I think I came out ahead for it. I think web developers are kind of envisioned as these quirky youngsters straight out of college with high hopes an ambitions who run out and create small start-ups laden with bean bag chairs and modern paint jobs, and I found playing that stereotype worked for me, rather than appearing unprofessional.

I'm honored that SRT Solutions is included in the list of clients for whom ICM has concocted a jingle.
